These stage labels describe the offered equipment configurations. Verify the matched system’s SEER2 rating on its specifications; the rating alone does not determine its staging.

USDUse comparable installed totals, including taxes and required work. Changing efficiency does not change these prices. Update each from its own quote.
Use the annual-average whole-home monthly bill, not a peak summer bill. Cooling share is an editable scenario assumption. Thermostat ranges alone cannot establish a home’s cooling cost.
For this comparison, we apply the estimated cooling budget to the selected baseline system. This is a rough planning scenario, not a prediction of your current system’s cost or actual savings. Choose Annual cost to enter a supported cooling-only estimate directly.
Estimated annual cooling savings
Option B is estimated to use $817 in cooling electricity per year, compared with $990 for Option A.

This is a simplified cooling-efficiency comparison, not a quote or savings guarantee. Select the offered matched-system SEER2 options and enter comparable installed prices for a more useful estimate.
Annual savings = Option A cooling cost − Option B cooling cost
Simple payback = additional installed cost ÷ annual savings
Net savings = years × annual savings − additional installed cost
- Monthly-bill mode uses the annual-average whole-home electric bill × 12 × an editable cooling share. The 33% starting share is informed by historical 2020 EIA Texas statewide electricity totals for cooling including air-handler use. That aggregate is not a measurement of a thermostat range, individual home, or new system. The 40% starting share is a chosen higher-use planning assumption, not a sourced thermostat coefficient. The two comfort settings are scenario presets only; there is no additional temperature multiplier. Your custom cooling share is retained separately for each setting until reset.
- Both options use SEER2. The four choices and their stage labels describe the offered equipment configurations, not every system with those ratings.
- The estimate assumes the same cooling load, capacity needs, electricity rate, home, thermostat use, and operating conditions. Actual consumption also depends on climate, sizing, installation, ducts, maintenance, and behavior.
- Use the annual cooling electricity cost for Option A. A whole-house bill includes other uses. If Option A is a proposed new system, your current old system’s cost is not automatically the right baseline.
- Prices do not change with the efficiency slider. Each is an independently editable example until replaced with a quote. No product availability or minimum-code compliance is implied by the slider.
- Heating, maintenance, repairs, replacement, financing, rebates, tax incentives, inflation, electricity-rate changes, and the time value of money are excluded. This is simple, undiscounted payback.
- If Option B costs more upfront without positive annual savings, there is no savings payback. If it costs less upfront but more each year, its initial cost advantage can disappear; the calculator identifies that crossover separately.
- Currency is rounded for display. Calculations use full precision. Changing the comparison period does not change annual savings or payback.
